A violent clash between Boko Haram (Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad, JAS) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters has left scores of terrorists dead in northern Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed that the confrontation, which occurred on December 23 and 24, 2024, saw Boko Haram fighters targeting ISWAP strongholds in Toumbun Gini, Mangari, Toumbun Saje, and Metele.
Reports indicate that Boko Haram launched a coordinated attack, overpowering ISWAP fighters, killing many, and seizing 20 motorcycles. Several ISWAP camps were also destroyed during the assault.
“The attacks forced ISWAP to abandon its camps,” Makama shared on X (formerly Twitter), adding that the group is now focused on rebuilding its forces and avoiding further direct engagements with Boko Haram.
