Bayelsa Student Assault: Kadi B, Accomplices Re-Arrested After Public Outcry

Kadi B, the alleged leader of a gang that brutally assaulted a female student, Nancy, at the Federal University Otuoke (FUO) in Bayelsa State, has been re-arrested following nationwide outrage over her earlier release.

The shocking incident, which was captured in a viral video, showed Nancy being beaten, stripped, and humiliated by a group of young women who accused her of having a relationship with their ex-boyfriend.

Public anger intensified after reports emerged that Kadi B had initially been freed by the police, sparking widespread calls for justice from gender rights activists and civil society organisations. Responding to the mounting pressure, Zone 16 police operatives, working with FUO’s security team, re-arrested Kadi B along with two of her accomplices.

In a swift move, Bayelsa State First Lady, Dr. Gloria Diri, took custody of Nancy, pledging comprehensive medical care and a full scholarship to ensure the continuation of her education through university.

Women’s groups across Nigeria have hailed the arrests, urging authorities to prosecute the perpetrators fully under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act.
