Bauchi Gets New Speaker

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Babayo Akuyam, along with his deputy, Ahmed Abdullahi have resigned their positions following the victory of the immediate past Speaker, Abubakar Y. Suleiman at the rerun polls.

Akuyam was reported to have said that he would be a temporary Speaker pending the outcome of the rerun of his predecessor.

He and his deputy on Wednesday during a plenary announced their decision to step down for Suleiman and Darihu after their victories at the rerun polls.

Shortly after announcing their resignations, the House immediately re-elected Abubakar Sulaiman and Jamilu Dahiru as Speaker and deputy respectively.

Vanguard reports that Hon. Habibu Umar representing Kirfi Constituency nominated him and Hon. Bala Abdullahi Dan (Digiri/Gwana Constituency) seconded the motion.

Thereafter the Honourable members unanimously elected Rt. Honourable Abubakar Y Suleiman as Speaker, for the third time.
