Suspected bandits have launched another deadly attack in Plateau State, killing one person and abducting two others in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the fresh assault took place in the early hours of Monday at about 12:15 a.m. when a group of youths was ambushed on their way to Barkin Ladi town.
Makama reported that the gunmen, said to be heavily armed, opened fire on the unsuspecting victims. One of the youths, identified as 25-year-old Dayes Alexander, was shot dead on the spot. Two others, Palang Daniel (26) and Gabriel Ayuba (25), were seized by the attackers and taken to an unknown location.
Following the incident, security operatives were swiftly deployed to the area and immediately commenced a search operation in nearby bushes with the aim of rescuing the kidnapped victims and apprehending the assailants.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been handed over to his family for burial after the relatives reportedly declined an autopsy.
The attack adds to a series of violent incidents in Plateau State, where communities have repeatedly suffered killings, kidnappings, and displacement at the hands of criminal gangs. Residents continue to call for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable rural areas and prevent further bloodshed.
