Bandits who attacked the General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have demanded a ransom of N540 million for the release of their captives.
According to Afripost, the attack, which occurred on Tuesday, left Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, a medical professional, wounded by gunfire, and resulted in the abduction of several hospital staff, including Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, the Assistant Director of Nursing Services.
A reliable family source revealed that the bandits are demanding N270 million for the release of the senior nurse and another N270 million for the other kidnapped hospital employees, as well as staff members from a nearby fertilizer factory who were also taken during the raid.
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, condemned the attack and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the security of healthcare workers.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the governor highlighted the ongoing efforts to curb insecurity in the state but acknowledged that more needed to be done. “This unfortunate event underscores that our mission to protect lives and property is not yet complete. We are reinforcing security measures and increasing personnel at healthcare facilities to ensure medical workers can perform their duties safely,” the governor said.
A government source confirmed that efforts are underway to secure the safe release of the captives.
