Armed bandits launched yet another deadly attack on Friday in Kayawa village, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, opening fire on farmers working on their farmlands and killing one person.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in an area that shares boundaries with Birnin Gwari, one of the state’s most volatile hotspots for banditry.
A local source who confirmed the attack said the farmers were working separately on their farms when the gunmen suddenly emerged.
“Our people were farming on separate farms when the bandits appeared and opened fire. Everyone ran, but Jamilu Ibrahim was unlucky. They shot him and finished him with their swords,” the source said.
The attackers also stole the victim’s motorcycle before retreating into the forest.
Friday’s killing adds to a string of recent deadly attacks in Giwa LGA. Just on Monday, bandits murdered Mallam Bashar Musa on his farm in Iyatawa village, and on Sunday, another victim was killed along the Kaduna–Kachia Road.
Meanwhile, multiple unreported kidnappings have also been recorded across the state. Details obtained from Chikun Local Government Area show several recent abductions, including:
Gbakun Village: Eight people abducted — Elisha Sunday, Habila Sunday, Jacob Hassan, Emmanuel John, Helen Ibrahim, Hannatu Audu, Miracle Daniel, and an unnamed infant.
Kadaru (Oct. 28, 2024): Four people kidnapped.
Kankomi Village (Oct. 28, 2024): Five persons abducted and eleven motorcycles stolen — Shagari Saidu, Bamaiyi Amos, Yohanna Dogo, Amazing Monday, and Dogo Kapau.
In a related development, fresh information has emerged regarding the fate of Rev. Fr. Bobbo Pascal, earlier rumoured to have been killed by terrorists. Family sources have confirmed that the abductors are demanding ₦5 million as ransom, raising hopes that the priest may still be alive.
Fr. Pascal was kidnapped on Monday when armed men invaded his community. His brother, Anthony Yero, was killed during the attack, while several residents were taken away.
The latest incident occurred the same day terrorists stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, and abducted 25 schoolgirls.
Kaduna and several northern states continue to grapple with recurrent attacks, killings, and kidnappings despite government efforts to curb insecurity.
