The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University chapter, has reactivated its indefinite strike action, citing the state government’s failure to honour several outstanding agreements.
This was made known on Thursday in a statement by the union’s chairman, Dr. Peter Adamu, who said the decision was reached after it became clear that the government had not fulfilled its promises. According to him, lecturers had no choice but to return to the strike they had earlier suspended in good faith.
Among the unresolved issues are unpaid salaries, outstanding earned allowances, delayed promotion arrears, and the non-remittance of pension deductions. The union also expressed concerns over the non-implementation of wage awards, the lack of a group life insurance policy for staff, and what they described as continued interference with the university’s autonomy.
Dr. Adamu warned that academic activities at the university would be seriously affected by the strike and reaffirmed ASUU’s commitment to continue the action until the government addresses all outstanding demands.
