As the Nigeria currency, naira continues to gain stronger against the United States Dollar both at official and parallel market, Nigerians expect that the prices of foodstuffs and other commodities would drop so as to ease the hardship facing the country.

In regards to this, the building sector has continued to witness decrease in costs of building materials recently.

In the latest development, Starnews NG gathered that there has been a decrease in the cost of building materials in the country.

In a chat with one of the building Engineers, Engr Adeyemi Adetuwo, said, “Contrary to what had almost killed us in February, the prices of construction materials have averagedly come down.”

Giving the breakdown, Adetuwo said, “Sharp sand has dropped from 193k to 150k for 20 tone. Plastering sand 30tones reduced in price from 230k to 150k.

“Granite 30tones also reduced in price from 500k to 450k, cement which was last month sold for #10,500 dropped to 8,300. The price of iron rods also dropped from 1.3m to 850k per tone.”

He stated further that “Tiles has dropped from 6k to #5,100. Blocks 9 inches dropped from 560 down to 490, while 6 inches block which was initially 510 dropped to 460. Kitchen board which was formerly sold for 36,300 dropped to 25,000”.

Starnews NG also gathered that paving stone dropped from #13,000 to #7500 per square meters. Likewise the price of diesel per litre is now #1,250 instead of #1500 it was before.

Starnews NG reported on February 29, 2023 how building Engineers and Estate developers decried the increasing cost of building materials in the country.

According to the Situation of Real Estate Construction sighted by Starnews NG in February, the cost of sharp sand rose from #63,000 to #193,000, plaster sand jumped rapidly from #115,000 to #230,000, while granite skyrocketed from the initial price of #180,000 to #500,000.

The cost of cement which was at #4,700 per bag stood at #10,500 in February with iron(per ton) jumping unbelievably to #1.5m from #310,000 .

Tiles which cost #3,500 a pack rose in the month of February to #6,000, and the prices of blocks range from #500 to #510 for 9 and 6 inches respectively.

Kitchen Boards Carcass which initially cost #11,000 was sold at #36,300 in February with kitchen doors costing #26,000 from #11,000 it was before the declines of the Naira.

The price of paving stones per Square meter stood at #13,000 in February from #4,000, with a litre of diesel sold at #1,500 from #240.
