APC Asks Ajayi to Apologize Over Comments On Tribunal Judgement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has demanded an apology from Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the recent governorship election, over his reaction to the tribunal’s verdict.

On June 4, the Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal confirmed the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC.

The three-member panel, led by Justice Benson Ogbu, dismissed the petitions filed by Ajayi and others, stating they lacked merit and were not properly presented.

Following the ruling, APC supporters celebrated across Akure. Ajayi, however, questioned the timing of the celebration, claiming it suggested the APC already knew the outcome before it was announced.

He vowed to appeal the ruling, describing the judgment as disappointing and lacking fair analysis of the evidence presented.

In response, the APC accused Ajayi of trying to cast doubt on the integrity of the judiciary.

The party’s media director, Steve Otaloro, said the PDP’s reaction was unfair to both the judicial panel and voters who supported the APC during the election.

According to him, Ajayi’s comments were an attack on the electoral process and an attempt to discredit a system that delivered a clear result.

The APC insisted that Ajayi and the PDP should issue a public apology to the judges and the people of Ondo State.

The party also said the opposition only accepts court rulings when they go in their favour, accusing them of trying to discredit the judiciary simply because they lost.
