Margaret Okon, the Assistant State Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River South Senatorial District, has resigned from the party.
Her decision comes just two days after Emana Amawhe, the party’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2024 elections, also stepped down from the state chapter.
In a letter sent to the Ward Chairman of Edem Odo Ward in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Okon expressed her gratitude for the opportunities she had while serving the party.
She recalled her political journey within the PDP, where she served in different roles, including as a ward executive member, a councillor, and a member of the state executive council.
She held the position of Assistant State Woman Leader for the Cross River South Senatorial District until her resignation.
Okon acknowledged the experience she gained from her time in the party and said it would shape her future pursuits.
She also reassured that, despite leaving the PDP, she remains committed to serving her community and working towards development.
Her resignation is the latest in a series of exits from the party, raising concerns about the stability of the PDP in Cross River State.
