Anambra Varsity Suspends Security Officer Over Physical Altercation With Female Student

The management of the University on the Niger (UNINIGER), Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, has announced the suspension of one of its security personnel following a physical altercation with a female student on campus.

The decision, which was made public through an official statement issued on Monday by the acting Registrar, Ven. Dr. Chinedu Nnatuanya, came in response to a video of the incident that surfaced online over the weekend, sparking public outrage.

In the video, the security staff was seen engaging in a heated confrontation with the female student, which eventually escalated into a physical brawl—an act that the university described as a clear violation of its core values and conduct expectations.

“The action captured in the video does not represent the ideals and ethical standards of the University on the Niger,” the statement read. “We are a grace-filled institution committed to Christ-like character, ethical behaviour, and servant leadership.”

As a result, the university authorities immediately suspended the staff involved and activated the institution’s disciplinary procedures. A full investigation has been launched to ascertain the facts and recommend appropriate sanctions.

The statement further reassured parents, students, and members of the public that the university remains committed to providing a safe and disciplined environment for learning and personal development.

“We urge members of the university community to remain calm and allow the investigation to run its course. The institution will not condone any act of indiscipline, whether from staff or students,” the Registrar added.

The University on the Niger, a faith-based institution, emphasized that it would continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability in its operations.
