The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with cases of car-snatching, truck diversion, and child abduction in separate operations across the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Awka, noting that stolen vehicles and other items were recovered during the operations carried out by divisions in Achalla, Okpoko, and Ihiala.
According to Ikenga, a joint team of operatives from Achalla Division and the Special Vigilante Taskforce arrested two suspects, Chinwendu Ndieli and Uchenna Offodile, on September 23.
The suspects were intercepted with a white Toyota Camry Spider with registration number AWK 91 SR (Anambra), while an additional plate number, 06A 90 DT (Delta), was recovered inside the vehicle.
The car was taken to the station for safekeeping and possible identification by the rightful owner.
On the same day, youths in Akwa Village, Ihiala, assisted police operatives in apprehending another suspect, Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo, over the alleged abduction of three children aged six, three, and two.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Charles conspired with two accomplices—currently at large—to kidnap the children.
The mother of the victims reportedly told police that her children went missing while eating outside their home when she briefly stepped into the kitchen.
She further alleged that the suspect, a neighbour, had been harbouring the two fleeing accomplices.
Ikenga said Charles was rescued by police after being beaten by angry residents and is currently receiving medical attention. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and rescue the missing children.
He assured that the state remains calm as counter-terrorism and crime-prevention operations continue across Anambra.
