The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 32-year-old man, Joshua Simeon, for allegedly engaging in human trafficking.
According to NAN, Confirming the arrest in a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that police operatives acted on credible intelligence to intercept the suspect at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area.
Simeon was arrested on February 1 around 4:00 p.m. while allegedly attempting to flee with a five-year-old girl, identified as Nkemdilim Jacob. The child had reportedly been taken from her home in Umuota Village, Obosi.
“The suspect had already boarded a commercial vehicle and was on his way to an unknown location when officers from the Ogidi Area Command intervened and stopped him,” Ikenga stated.
He added that the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation to determine his motives and whether he is connected to a larger human trafficking syndicate.
Meanwhile, authorities are working to locate the girl’s parents or guardians to ensure her safe return home.
The police reassured the public of their commitment to safeguarding children and tackling child trafficking, urging residents to report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
