As part of its ongoing efforts to promote safety and curb criminal activities, the Anambra State Government has closed a brothel located in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.

The action was carried out under the state’s Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade.

According to PUNCH, the brothel, reportedly a hub for unlawful activities, was known for harboring minors, drug dealers, and individuals linked to robbery and other crimes.

During the raid, OCHA operatives rescued 10 individuals, including underaged girls.

The closure followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering regarding the facility’s operations.

In a statement released on Thursday, Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, explained that the government took the decision based on verified reports of illegal and harmful practices linked to the brothel.

“After careful monitoring, we discovered that the facility was being used for illegal activities, including the exploitation of minors and drug trafficking. It also served as a hideout for criminals,” Anere said.

He further stated that plans are in place to arrest and prosecute those managing the establishment to discourage similar practices in the state.

The government has reiterated its dedication to creating a safer and healthier environment for all residents.
