….As Igbokoda College road gets dual carriage
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has given approval for the construction and rehabilitation of key road networks across the state, including the Omotosho–Igbotako–Iju-Odo Road in Okitipupa Local Government Area and the dualisation of College Road in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government.
The move, described as a major step in Aiyedatiwa’s infrastructure renewal drive, aims to boost economic activities, improve inter-community access, and reduce travel time for residents and commuters.
Announcing the approvals after the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Monday in Akure, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, said the projects are part of a comprehensive effort to bridge infrastructure gaps across the state.
He disclosed that the Council approved a total of 101.036 kilometres of roads, comprising 66.421 kilometres of new constructions and 34.615 kilometres of rehabilitation and reconstruction works.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration is deliberately investing in critical infrastructure that drives development. These projects will enhance mobility, stimulate trade and open up new frontiers for growth,” Olawoye said.
Among the major projects approved are the reconstruction of the Omotosho–Igbotako–Iju-Odo Road (21.2km), dual carriageway of College Road–Okoga Junction–Irewole Roundabout in Igbokoda (8.5km), and rehabilitation of Akure–Ijare Road with spur to Ikota Township (8.8km).
The government also approved the reconstruction of Akure–Imafon Road, the Danjuma–Bolajoko axis with spurs to Isikan, and the asphalt overlay of Investment Junction–Shoprite–Federal Secretariat Road in Alagbaka, Akure.
In Akure metropolis, the government completed the review of the Ijoka Dual Carriageway project to pave the way for the contractor’s return to site, while the Onyeagbulem–Shagari/Irese Flyover and several internal road networks were also reviewed for progress and quality assurance.
Olawoye explained that the infrastructure approvals were complemented by capital projects in other sectors, including a 216-bed hostel for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, and a two-storey complex for the Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Other facilities billed for renovation include office complexes belonging to the Hospital Management Board (HMB), Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and the Ministries of Water Resources, Energy and Mineral Resources, Women Affairs, and Lands and Housing.
Addressing newsmen, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, said the projects underscored Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development.
“Every part of the state will feel the impact of this administration’s developmental agenda. Infrastructure remains a key pillar in the governor’s blueprint for economic transformation,” Ajanaku said.
He added that all projects would be closely monitored to ensure quality and timely delivery.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, disclosed that the Council also approved the appointment of new traditional rulers and the constitution of a Warrant Chiefs Committee for the Olojoda Chieftaincy Stool.
According to him, Prince Emmanuel Adetutu Ifasole emerged as the Akinuwa of Ipindo in Ondo West Local Government, Prince Bamikole Adeyefa as the Elemure of Emure-Ile in Owo Local Government, and Prince Akintoye Felix Adeoye as the Oloke of Okeigbo in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government.
Takuro noted that the new appointments were part of the government’s effort to promote peace and traditional leadership stability at the grassroots.
The approvals, which cut across critical sectors, mark another bold step in Aiyedatiwa’s agenda to modernise Ondo State through massive infrastructure investment, urban renewal, and institutional reforms.
