Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, remains confined to his sickbed as he grapples with a deteriorating health condition, having recently undergone another leg surgery, including the amputation of a portion of the same leg that was surgically removed a month ago.
The situation has left the renowned comic actor in a state where he hardly communicates.
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Dr. Emeka Rollas, shared an update on the concerning health situation of Mr. Ibu and another veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor.
Rollas conveyed, “As I speak with you, Mr. Ibu hardly talks again, and he has undergone another leg amputation.”
Concerns also loom over the health of Amaechi Muonagor, who has been hospitalized at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Anambra State, for over two months.
Rollas, who visited Muonagor recently, expressed the dire state of the actor’s health, stating, “You will shed tears if you see Amaechi Muonagor now; his legs are completely paralyzed.”
Rollas, noting the challenging circumstances faced by the ailing actors, urged fans and well-wishers to support Muonagor during this difficult time.
The AGN has taken a step in providing financial assistance, with Rollas approving the sum of N250,000 to be sent to Muonagor’s account from the AGN Trust Fund.
However, he acknowledged that additional support is needed, considering Muonagor’s medical history and expenses with the Guild HMO and Insurance policy.
Amaechi Muonagor’s cousin, Tony, previously shared the actor’s health challenges on Facebook, revealing a battle against kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The AGN president urged aspiring actors to enroll in the AGN HMO and Insurance programs, emphasizing the importance of health coverage for artists in the industry.
