ADC Seeks Alliance with Other Parties to Promote Good Governance in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State says it is initiating strategic alliances with other political parties as part of efforts to promote good governance in the state and across Nigeria.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Umuahia on Saturday, the state chairman of the party, Don Obinna, said the ADC is positioning itself to win key elective offices, including the governorship seat in Abia come 2027. He noted that the party is committed to improving the lives of residents and creating sustainable job opportunities.

Obinna revealed that several politicians from various parties in Abia have expressed interest in joining the ADC, describing the development as a sign of growing confidence in the party’s vision. He urged existing members to remain active and involved to retain their relevance as the party expands.

While acknowledging that forming alliances may lead to some internal adjustments and possible displacement of loyal members, the ADC chairman emphasized that the goal is to build a stronger, more inclusive party—not to weaken it.

“I decided to join the coalition because I believe Abia deserves better governance,” he said.

Obinna commended the current efforts of the state governor but noted that more needs to be done, especially in tackling unemployment, which he said is currently at 18.7 percent. According to him, true good governance must positively affect every sector and improve the overall quality of life for citizens.

Also speaking at the event, Uzoma Afamefuna, a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, and the keynote speaker, said the ruling government is yet to effectively tackle the major issues confronting the people. He stressed that genuine good governance would address many challenges, including insecurity.

Afamefuna endorsed the ADC’s coalition move, describing it as a step in the right direction that could reposition Nigeria’s political landscape. He said the initiative would help strengthen democratic institutions and shift the focus of governance toward the welfare of the people.

“What the ADC is doing today is key to advancing democracy in Nigeria. It has the potential to awaken the political consciousness of Nigerians and empower them to make informed choices about their leaders,” he added.
