ADC Begins Nationwide Mobilisation for 2027 Opposition Coalition

The African Democratic Congress has launched a nationwide consultation to galvanize support for a proposed coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Abuja, the ADC National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, said the initiative involves engaging state chapters, civil society groups, labour unions, and other stakeholders in all 36 states to strengthen grassroots mobilization and coalition unity.

This move follows a March 2025 announcement by opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai about plans to form a united political front against the current administration.

Nwosu said the week-long convergence, which began May 29 and runs through June 6, is backed by the party’s National Executive and Working Committees. He described the effort as a grassroots-driven project, stating, “It is no longer a project centered in Abuja. The time has come for Nigerians to own this mission.”

He noted that the coalition would promote transparency, inclusivity, and shared leadership from the national level down to the wards. “Every member should now be fully adjusted to the tradition that ADC is co-owned by the coalition. This is a shared journey,” he said.

The initiative also includes a new approach to resource mobilization and communication, focusing on bottom-up strategies that will empower citizens across regions.

Nwosu emphasized that the goal is to rescue Nigeria from what he described as “nepotism, hunger, impunity, corruption, insecurity, insurgency, and poor governance.”

Calling the effort a “national emergency,” he said, “The problems we face are bigger than any single party. We must unite as one coalition of conscience.”
