Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a series of violent incidents that disrupted peace in the area.
The announcement was made through a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Humwashi Wonosikou, in Yola, the state capital. The curfew, he confirmed, takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
According to Wonosikou, the decision became necessary after the state recorded repeated disturbances in parts of Lamurde, threatening public safety and stability.
“The recent outbreak of violence in Lamurde is deeply troubling. The government cannot allow lawlessness to fester,” the statement said. “Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew without compromise.”
Residents were cautioned to remain indoors throughout the period of the curfew. Anyone found violating the order would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
The state government also urged citizens to support security personnel with information that could help restore calm and prevent further unrest.
“Peaceful coexistence remains our priority, and we will continue to take every step necessary to safeguard lives and property,” the statement added.
The governor further appealed to the people of Lamurde to avoid spreading misinformation, and instead collaborate with authorities to return normalcy to the area.
