Former Senator Elisha Abbo has lashed out at Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of ruling the Senate with authoritarian power.
In an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time program, Abbo criticized Akpabio’s handling of the suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, which followed a dispute over her seating arrangement with the Senate President.
On March 6, Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended, with her security detail withdrawn, and both her and her legislative aides’ salaries and allowances halted. Abbo argued that this action endangered her safety.
“Akpabio acted like an emperor, ordering her suspension, revoking her security, and barring her from the National Assembly,” Abbo said. “This left her vulnerable to potential harm.”
He also referenced past conflicts in the 8th Senate, noting that under former Senate President Bukola Saraki, such disagreements were resolved in a more balanced manner.
Abbo further dismissed ongoing efforts to recall Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling them fraudulent and alleging the use of forged signatures.
