The Nigerian military has retired 656 senior non-commissioned officers (SNCOs) after 35 years of service, marking their transition to civilian life through a structured six-month demilitarization program.
The retirement ceremony, held at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) in Oshodi, celebrated the contributions of 535 Army personnel, 86 Navy officers, 35 Air Force officers, and two from the Defence Intelligence Agency.
The programme aimed to prepare the retirees for life outside the military by equipping them with managerial and entrepreneurial skills.
Officials at the event acknowledged the retirees’ dedication and the enduring impact of their service on the military institution and the nation.
NAFRC Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Bashir Mamman, noted that over 51,000 personnel have undergone similar training at the center.
He outlined plans to enhance vocational and management training for future retirees, positioning NAFRC as a premier institution for post-service preparation.
