2027: Why ADC Coalition Won’t Survive — Ortom

Former Governor of Benue State and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Samuel Ortom, has dismissed the viability of the newly formed coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), predicting that it will not survive ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ortom described the alliance as weak, disjointed, and lacking the legal and structural framework to challenge the ruling party or the PDP effectively.

“I don’t see the coalition surviving. Even if they survive the ongoing litigations, they will be defeated hands down,” Ortom asserted.

The former governor’s remarks come in the wake of the ADC’s efforts to lead a coalition of opposition parties—reportedly including supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi—towards forming a common front ahead of the next presidential election.

Ortom, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, said he remains loyal to his party and has no intention of defecting or supporting any third-force alliance.

“I am still a member of the PDP. I am a leader in the PDP in Benue State, and I remain committed to the party. We have no business with the ADC coalition,” he said.

He further questioned the political strategy behind the coalition, warning that such arrangements often lack the unity and resolve necessary to withstand the heat of electoral contests, especially at the national level.

Addressing issues of power rotation, Ortom reiterated his earlier position that the presidency should return to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, which, according to him, was dominated by the North.

The PDP stalwart’s statement is viewed as a subtle rebuke to opposition figures rallying under the ADC banner and may indicate growing resistance within the PDP to any broad-based merger or alliance talks ahead of 2027.
