2027: NNPP Seeks Opposition Alliance to Unseat Adeleke

By Charles Maduka

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State has called on opposition parties to unite and work together to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the next governorship election.

The party expressed readiness to support or present any candidate with a real chance of winning, regardless of their political affiliation, stating that a coalition was the only way to successfully challenge the incumbent administration.

In a statement signed by the NNPP chairman in Osun, Tosin Odeyemi, and made available in Osogbo on Tuesday, the party urged stakeholders to set aside differences and back a credible candidate who can draw support across party lines.

“Propaganda has taken over governance in Osun State, and no elder statesman has dared to challenge the current administration,” Odeyemi stated. “We believe a strong candidate, respected across party lines, can attract up to 40% of PDP votes. Unity is the only path to victory.”

He emphasized that no party could win alone in 2026 and that the NNPP is open to fielding or supporting a candidate of integrity to “rescue” the state.

Odeyemi further pointed out that the general political atmosphere was changing, with many voters moving away from party loyalty and focusing more on credible individuals.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dismissed the NNPP’s proposal, describing the party as lacking the structure and influence needed to be taken seriously in Osun politics.

Reacting to Odeyemi’s remarks, PDP spokesperson Oladele Bamiji said, “Odeyemi is simply running a one-man show. No major political party will consider an alliance with the NNPP, which lacks visibility in the state.”

Bamiji added that Governor Adeleke remains widely popular due to his performance in office and would comfortably win another term if he chooses to run.

“He can dream of an opposition coalition, but Osun people know who is working. The governor has delivered on many fronts and remains the people’s choice,” he said.

Despite the PDP’s stance, the NNPP insists that a united opposition is the only way forward in the face of what it describes as governance driven by propaganda and unchecked power.
