The Presidency has predicted that the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, anchored on prominent opposition figures, will disintegrate within six months due to a lack of cohesive ideology and unity .
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, made this forecast during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today. He cited signs of internal struggle, noting that some members of the coalition—including former LP vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba‑Ahmed—had already expressed doubts. On July 4, Baba‑Ahmed warned that contention over the coalition’s presidential ticket could precipitate its undoing: “everybody wants to be president” .
Bwala criticized the coalition’s inability to present genuine policy alternatives. “This coalition of internally displaced politicians has not been able to come up with alternative facts, alternative policies, or alternative programmes,” he said. He emphasized that ADC’s leaders, including Peter Obi, had only criticised the Tinubu administration rather than propose credible solutions .
He dismissed the coalition’s plans as “fantasy,” arguing that after an initial media hype, the group will “scatter” once internal power dynamics emerge. “On my honour,” he asserted, “in the next six months, that coalition will not even be a conversation” .
Meanwhile, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris echoed the sentiment, urging government supporters not to be distracted by what he called “political startups.” According to Idris, the administration remains focused on its reform agenda and will not be sidetracked by opposition noise.
As the 2027 general election approaches, the fate of this opposition coalition will shape national political dynamics. The Presidency’s prediction underscores its confidence in APC’s dominance. The coming months will reveal whether this new bloc can consolidate around shared goals—or unravel under its own ambitions.
