A 19-year-old aspiring Nigerian musician, identified only as Destiny, has tragically lost his life after an alleged brutal assault in Ghana’s Volta Region.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on May 28, is believed to have stemmed from a business-related dispute involving Destiny and other Nigerians residing in Ghana.
Sources revealed to PUNCH Metro that Destiny was accused by a fellow Nigerian—who also helped facilitate his relocation to Ghana—of mismanaging funds tied to a business they had introduced him to. The individual, along with two others, reportedly confronted Destiny at his apartment to demand an explanation regarding the missing funds.
Unable to provide satisfactory answers, Destiny was allegedly subjected to a violent beating, which ultimately proved fatal.
A person familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Destiny, originally from Edo State, had traveled to Ghana for educational purposes. “He went there to pursue his studies. The same people who arranged his trip and got him accommodation were involved in this. They accused him of misappropriating money for a business they introduced to him and then attacked him. He couldn’t withstand the assault and died as a result,” the source recounted.
Reports suggest that the assailants left his lifeless body in the apartment. It wasn’t until several days later that local police were alerted and arrived to discover the young man’s remains.
“We understand that the police found his body a few days after the attack,” another source said. “So far, no arrests have been made, but we’re hoping the Ghanaian authorities will investigate thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.”
In a video obtained by PUNCH Metro, Destiny is seen speaking about his aspirations. “I’m Destiny, a streamer from Nigeria. I want to apply to Streamers University. That would mean so much to me, my mother, and everyone. I’m also a music artist and gamer,” he said.
This heartbreaking event follows a similar tragedy reported in April, where a 77-year-old Nigerian Uber driver, Olatunji Bolaji, was fatally shot while working in Philadelphia, United States.
