  • How can a Government which has only minimally satisfied three local Governments out of 18LGAs be seeking second term, he queried?

Leading governorship aspirant of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Banji Okunomo, told Ondo State electorates on Saturday that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s reelection will finally return the State back to Egypt, the biblical land of slavery of the Israelites.

Addressing newsmen in Okitipupa on Saturday, Okunomo said the people of Ondo State should be wary of Governor Akeredolu’s first coming of inability to satisfy 25% of the electorates in Ondo state let alone fifty percent of the electorates.

”The people of Ondo State should not be deceived and lured into Akeredolu’s second term bid. It has become apparent that the second term of a Governor in this country has always manifested mass failure on the part of the governor that is reelected as many returning governors will do less during their second terms.

”The duty to reject a non performing governor lies with the electorates. The only time the electorates can save themselves is a time like this that the Governor is seeking a second term in office”.

”It is obvious that the serving Governor of Ondo State has failed to satisfy up 25% of the electorates of Ondo state let alone a 50 percent ”, Okunomo said.

He added that Governor Akeredolu represents the first Governor in the history of Ondo State who is seeking second term in office despite failing to perform in his first tenure as Governor.

He said: ”This is the first time in the history of Ondo state that an incumbent Governor who performed below expectations will be seeking a second term in office”.

”The incumbent government in Ondo state is a total failure. How can a government which has only minimally satisfied three local Governments out of 18 local Government Areas be clamouring for a second term?

”It is an absurdity of the highest order and a deliberate act of playing God and the intelligence of the people of Ondo State.

”I am very confident that the outgoing Government of Ondo State is not only rejected by the people of Ondo State but also God, the Creator of man.

Starnews NG reports that Okunomo said the fact that the Constitution provides for second term for a Governor doesn’t make it automatic for the Governor to return. Rather, it is an opportunity for the electorates to appraise and determine whether or not such Governor deserves to be reelected based on his performance.

”The mischief the Law intends to cure is to empower the electorates another ample opportunity to continue or discontinue the reign of a Governor strictly on performance.”

”I have personally done a comparative assessment of different State Governments in relation to their performance across the 36 States of Nigeria, I have observed that most of the Governors only perform in their first tenures in offices while their second terms record abysmal failure”.

”Therefore, I use this medium to awake the consciousness of Ondo State electoarates to this infallible assertion that many second term Governors don’t perform.”

”Four years is enough for a serious Government to perform and the return of any Government to power for a second term should be based, stricto senso, on Performance, as intended by our Constitution.

”I am assuring the people of Ondo State that within four years of becoming the Governor, I will create an unforgettable record of performance in the memory of Ondo State electorates ” he said.
