Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) in Lagos has officially launched an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), established by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
According to Adekunle Adams, the college’s spokesperson, the new unit is designed to reinforce ethical governance and enhance institutional integrity within the college.
During the inauguration, Yabatech Rector Ibraheem Abdul charged the ACTU members with maintaining a strict stance against corruption and any unethical behavior, especially concerning financial matters.
“Your role is not just symbolic; it carries great responsibility,” Abdul remarked. “You must act in ways that uphold the trust bestowed upon you.”
He urged the unit to reject any misconduct that could undermine their position or damage the college’s reputation. The rector emphasized the importance of ACTU members serving as role models in promoting transparency and ethical conduct throughout the institution.
ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu and Lagos Resident Commissioner Chukwurah Alexander praised Yabatech’s commitment to fostering accountability and integrity.
Aliyu pointed out that ACTUs across various ministries and agencies are crucial in the fight against corruption in public service, and stressed the importance of a cooperative relationship between the unit and college management.
Chukwurah handed over the operational manual of the ACTU to the rector, outlining the unit’s responsibilities and framework. He said, “We expect ACTU to raise awareness among staff, uphold ethical standards, and ensure continuous compliance.”
Tairu Onawale, chairman of the Yabatech ACTU, pledged that the team would carry out its duties with professionalism, transparency, and dedication to promoting accountability.
