Wilfred Ndidi available for £9m following Leicester’s relegation

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi could be on the move this summer, as a £9 million relegation release clause in his contract has now been triggered.

The clause came into effect after Leicester’s recent 1-0 defeat to Premier League leaders Liverpool confirmed their drop to the Championship with five matches remaining.

The club has since suffered another heavy loss, falling 3-0 to Wolves, and Ndidi is now among several players evaluating their next steps.

Despite the setback, Leicester appear poised to restructure their squad, with only a few players out of contract.

Those include veteran striker Jamie Vardy—who has announced his departure after 13 years with the club—alongside goalkeepers Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward. The presence of release clauses remains rare at the King Power Stadium.

Ndidi attracted attention from clubs like Marseille and Everton during the previous summer window when he was briefly available on a free transfer.

Nevertheless, Leicester successfully tied him down with a new three-year deal. The Nigerian international originally joined from Genk in 2017 for £17 million, and it’s believed the release clause was included to fend off mounting interest from rival clubs.

During his time with Leicester, Ndidi has lifted both the FA Cup and the Championship title. This season, he has made 27 appearances across all competitions.
