Human rights activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of large-scale financial misconduct during and after his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
Sowore alleged that Wike secretly moved Nigerian funds abroad, where he reportedly acquired parcels of land in the United States of America, allegedly registering the properties in his wife’s name.
The activist further claimed that part of the diverted funds was channeled into the construction of a luxury hotel in Rivers State, which he described as a symbol of corruption and misuse of public resources.
“These are monies meant for the development of Nigeria and the welfare of its citizens, but instead they have been diverted into private wealth projects,” Sowore alleged, insisting that the FCT Minister must be held accountable.
The allegations, though yet to be officially addressed by Wike, have stirred conversations across political and civil society circles, many of whom argue that the claims reflect a broader pattern of unaccounted funds and elite corruption in the country.
At the time of filing this report, the Minister of the FCT had not issued any public response to the accusations.
