Wike Cancels Approval For PDP Presidential Campaign Council’s Use Of Stadium

The Rivers State Government has cancelled the approval it granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council to use the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt, the state capital for its rally.

The reversal order is contained in a statement signed by the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, and addressed to the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal.

The statement dated January 31, 2023, said the credible intelligence available to the Government of Rivers State and recent development shows that the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization is working in collaboration with a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The statement further accused the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization of intending to share the approved facility with the faction of the APC which the government said is led by Tonye Cole, its governorship candidate.

The Rivers State Government explained that available records show that the activities of the APC have always been marred by violence which the government attributes to irreconcilable internal conflicts.

The government says it will not be able to risk damaging such priced property. The approval was given on January 11 for the PDP Presidential Campaign Council to use the facility on February 11.
