Why We Visited Buhari – APC Governors

A group of governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday met with former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna to seek his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.

The closed-door meeting was led by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who also chairs the APC Governors Forum.

According to information from someone familiar with the gathering, the visit was not just a courtesy call but also a serious attempt to convince Buhari to back Tinubu once more as opposition figures begin to organize ahead of the next presidential election.

The source shared that there are concerns within the APC leadership about the growing influence of a new political front formed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi.

These politicians, along with others, are reportedly working together to build a strong challenge against the current administration.

During the visit, the APC governors appealed to Buhari not to distance himself from Tinubu’s second-term goal, especially as some of his former allies are said to be aligning with the rival group.

Their mission was to remind the former president of his key role in the APC and to urge him to stay committed to the party’s direction moving forward.

Speaking after the meeting, Uzodimma described the gathering as a show of unity.

He said their purpose was also to check on Buhari’s well-being, calling him the father of the APC.

He assured that the party remains united even as some members have recently left.

The meeting comes at a time when the APC is trying to hold its ground while opposition voices grow louder.
