The Senate and Kogi State Government are worried about suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s growing influence, according to Isaiah Davies Ijele, the Press Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Ijele made this statement in an interview on ARISE Television on April 2, 2025, accusing the state government of using political intimidation to curb Natasha’s popularity.
Ijele argued that the government’s recent ban on public gatherings ahead of Natasha’s planned homecoming rally was not due to security concerns, but because of her rising support among the people.
He pointed out the hypocrisy of the Kogi State Government, noting that despite the massacre of 32 people in Omala Local Government in 2024, no curfew or ban was imposed.
He emphasized that the government had not acted on that tragedy until it was publicly exposed.
The SDP official also praised Natasha’s record, stating that she is the only politician who has won elections cleanly without the influence of political manipulation.
He claimed that the people in Kogi support her, which is why the state government and other politicians are threatened by her.
Ijele also touched on the devastation in his own hometown, Bagana, which he said has been severely impacted by banditry.
He accused the state government of ignoring the plight of displaced residents, many of whom have been living in internally displaced person (IDP) camps for over two years without any assistance.
He contrasted this with the government’s quick response in Ihima, a locality that he argued had not suffered similar violence.
