Why I Sacked Ibom Power MD – Umo Eno

By Our Correspondent

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has explained the decision to remove Engr. Meyen Etukudoh as the Managing Director of Ibom Power Company, citing the need to improve the state’s power sector operations.

Etukudoh was dismissed following a four-day blackout in the state, which he attributed to a gas supply issue caused by unpaid debts to Acugas.

However, Governor Eno criticized the former MD’s approach, stating that issuing an unauthorized press statement instead of resolving the issue diplomatically was inappropriate.

The governor also raised concerns about Etukudoh’s operational decisions, including reportedly leaving critical responsibilities in the hands of contractors.

Eno emphasized the importance of maintaining order and professionalism within public service roles.

Looking forward, the state plans to set up a committee and hold a power summit early next year to address the challenges facing the sector and develop actionable solutions.
