Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has clarified that the Dangote Refinery is not in competition with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
He made this known during a courtesy visit to the new Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC, Bayo Ojulari, in Abuja. The visit, according to a statement by NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, was aimed at strengthening cooperation and building a mutually beneficial relationship between the two institutions.
“There is no competition between us,” Dangote stated during the meeting. “NNPC is part of our business and we are part of theirs. This is a time for collaboration.”
This development comes amid past tensions over crude oil supply issues and accusations by Dangote of sabotage from certain marketers. However, he clarified that the current NNPC leadership is not part of those alleged efforts to frustrate his refinery.
During the meeting, Dangote congratulated the new NNPC GCEO and his management team on their appointments, acknowledging the enormity of the task ahead but expressing confidence in their capacity to deliver results.
On his part, Ojulari reaffirmed the NNPC’s commitment to building a productive partnership with the Dangote Group, emphasizing healthy competition and shared progress. He praised the dedication and talent of the NNPC workforce and highlighted the need to continue pursuing national prosperity through innovation and collaboration.
Both executives agreed to personally manage the relationship between their organizations to ensure continued progress and benefits for the Nigerian energy sector.
