We’ll Stand as Guarantors– Senator Abaribe Appeals to Tinubu for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District, has urged President Bola Tinubu to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been in detention.

According to Politics Nigeria, speaking after a meeting with Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, Abaribe expressed optimism that President Tinubu, known for his inclusive leadership style, would consider calls from stakeholders and the Attorney General of the Federation to release Kanu.

“We believe the President will listen to his Attorney General and others advocating for a peaceful resolution to the issues in the Southeast,” Abaribe stated. “Many criminals have taken advantage of Kanu’s detention to commit atrocities. Releasing him is vital to restoring calm and stability in the region.”

The senator assured that Southeast leaders are ready to act as guarantors for Kanu’s release, noting that his freedom could help address key challenges such as insecurity and the disruptive Monday sit-at-home protests. He stressed that peace in the region is essential for economic growth and the success of Tinubu’s economic policies.

“We need peace in the Southeast to reclaim its position as an industrial hub,” Abaribe said. “Without stability, efforts like the President’s proposed tax reforms and infrastructure initiatives will face setbacks in the region.”

Abaribe also commended Governor Otti’s development initiatives in Abia State, calling for cross-party collaboration to advance the Southeast’s progress. He encouraged the federal government to prioritize major infrastructure projects, including rail development, and to ensure that any tax reforms are implemented thoughtfully to avoid adverse effects on future generations.
