Leaders and stakeholders from the Warri Federal Constituency, Delta State, on Tuesday staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
The protesters accused the electoral body of conducting the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) without implementing the recently concluded delineation exercise ordered by the Supreme Court.
Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “CVR today is a political fraud in Warri Federal Constituency,” and “Warri Federal Constituency, no ward, no units for CVR,” they demanded the immediate release of the final report on electoral registration areas, wards, and polling units.
The demonstrators also displayed a giant banner bearing the map of Ijaw and Itsekiri communities in Warri South Local Government Area, stressing that without the implementation of the delineation report, residents of Warri would be disenfranchised.
They urged INEC to halt the ongoing CVR until the delineation records are released and enforced, insisting that only then would people in Warri Federal Constituency be able to fully participate in the electoral process.
