Legal practitioner, Wale Odusola, who was recently arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court over alleged defamation of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has broken his silence, describing his ordeal as reminiscent of military-era repression.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Odusola lamented the alleged clampdown on free speech, stating, “I just remember Decree No. 4 today. The dark days of military rule are here again. May God help us.”
His statement has sparked reactions across Ondo State, with many residents changing their display pictures on Facebook and WhatsApp in a show of solidarity.
Odusola was arraigned on Tuesday over allegations of verbal and psychological abuse against Aiyedatiwa on social media, including claims that the governor was involved in an extramarital affair with the state’s Finance Commissioner, Mrs Wunmi Isaac.
Despite pleading not guilty, the trial has continued to generate debate, with many condemning what they perceive as an attempt to muzzle dissenting voices.
Meanwhile, his supporters have maintained that the charges against him are politically motivated, insisting that his prosecution is an attack on free expression.
