WAFCON: We haven’t received Tinubu’s $100k gift – Falcons captain, Ajibade

Captain of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that the Super Falcons are yet to receive the $100,000 cash reward promised to them by President Bola Tinubu after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory in Morocco.

President Tinubu had announced the monetary gift, alongside houses and national honours, during a special reception at the Presidential Villa to celebrate the team’s achievement earlier this year.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade confirmed that none of the promises have been fulfilled so far.

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid; all the promises, we have not received anything,” the Atletico Madrid forward said.

he President made similar pledges to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, a week later, after they won the 2024 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
