WAEC: Katsina govt seeks cancellation of English language paper

The Katsina State Government has appealed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to annul the recently held English Language examination due to a nationwide delay in its commencement.

The appeal was made following a disruption on Wednesday that caused the exam to begin several hours behind the official schedule in various centers across the country.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Katsina, Zainab Musa-Musawa, conveyed the state’s position during a visit to WAEC’s office in the state capital.

The request was formally presented through a petition signed by Ummukhair Ahmed, who serves as the ministry’s permanent secretary.

WAEC reportedly cited increased measures to combat exam malpractice and prevent question paper leaks as the reason for the delay.

Musa-Musawa noted that, as a result of the late start, many students were forced to take the exam late into the night, relying on flashlights from mobile phones, torches, and security lighting due to a lack of electricity.

She called on parents, schools, and communities to remain calm and await the outcome of the petition currently being reviewed by the examination body.
