Three weeks after their mysterious disappearance, the bodies of two undergraduates of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have been found dead in a forest located along the border between Ondo and Ekiti States.
The deceased students, Andrel Eloho Okah, a 200-level student from the Department of History and International Studies, and John Friday Abba, a 200-level student from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, had been declared missing by their friends and colleagues nearly a month ago, sparking widespread concern within the university community.
Their disappearance prompted days of frantic searches, social media campaigns, and calls for help from both the public and security agencies. Students and loved ones expressed fears of kidnapping or foul play after all efforts to reach the duo proved abortive.
A coursemate, who identified himself as Ajibola, voiced his frustrations over the initial lack of progress in the search efforts. “For over two weeks now, the two of them have been missing from school and academic activities. We searched everywhere but couldn’t find them. Their phones have been unreachable, and no one has any information about their whereabouts,” he lamented.
“They were very close friends. We don’t know if this is a case of kidnapping or something else. We reported to the school management and the police, but all we were told was to calm down.”
Tragically, their corpses were discovered over the weekend in a bushy area around the Akoko-Ekiti border town. A security source, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the grim development to journalists on Sunday.
“It is sad to inform you that the two missing AAUA students have been killed by their suspected abductors. Their corpses have now been located, and our men are on the way to recover them,” the source revealed.
As at press time, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command would provide further updates as investigations progress.
The chilling discovery has cast a heavy cloud over the AAUA campus and sparked renewed calls for improved student safety, especially in off-campus communities. Meanwhile, the remains of the students have reportedly been evacuated for proper documentation and autopsy.
The university management has yet to issue an official statement, but students and concerned stakeholders have taken to social media with hashtags like #JusticeForOkahAndJohn and #ProtectAAUAStudents, demanding justice and accountability.
