The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, recently met with the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency KIM Pankyu, to discuss ways in which UNILAG and Korean institutions can collaborate more closely.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, 13 August 2024, at the Korean Embassy in Abuja, focused on establishing exchange programmes between UNILAG and universities in Korea. They discussed collaboration in areas such as the Arts, Engineering, and Sciences, with both sides expressing interest in enhancing innovation and technology.

A significant topic of discussion was the upcoming Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) Games. Professor Ogunsola requested the support of the Korean Embassy, particularly in Taekwondo, a sport in which South Korea excels. They also explored the possibility of technical assistance and other forms of support for the event.

Professor Ogunsola also highlighted UNILAG’s initiatives to work with industry partners to develop courses that equip students for the global job market.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Professor Ogunsola inviting Ambassador KIM to attend the FASU Games opening ceremony and UNILAG’s International Week.

This meeting marks an important step in strengthening educational ties between Nigeria and South Korea. Both parties are eager to translate these discussions into tangible actions, paving the way for a promising future for academic exchanges between the two countries.
