Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma have commenced a manhunt for armed bandits who abducted two farmers in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The victims, identified as Halilu Nuhu from Gidan Bawa village and Mamuda Aliyu from Bagarera village, were reportedly seized around noon on Thursday, July 31, while working on their respective farms.
According to a report shared on Friday by counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the attackers—believed to be about six in number—arrived on three motorcycles and forcibly took the farmers into a nearby forest.
In swift response, military troops deployed to the area launched search-and-rescue operations, blocking likely escape routes and combing suspected bandit hideouts, including forests stretching toward Nigeria’s border with the Niger Republic.
Security sources confirmed that the operation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted individuals and the apprehension of the perpetrators.
The abduction has sparked fresh concerns over the growing threat of insecurity in farming communities across northern Nigeria, where rural dwellers are increasingly vulnerable to attacks by criminal elements.
