Tofowomo Charges Akeredolu To Pay Outstanding Entitlements of Past Political Appointees

Otunba Nicholas Tofowomo, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senator-elect for Ondo South has charged Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State to pay past political appointees in the state their outstanding entitlements. 

He said although the political appointees served under former Gov. Olusegun Mimiko saying that power is transient and government is continum which behoves Gov. Akeredolu to pay the backlog without further delay. 

Otunba Tofowono gave this charge in a statement by his media aide Mr Olumide Akinrinlola and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Okitpupa.

He said that the former political appointees have served the state meritoriously and needed to be encouraged for their selfless services by making them enjoy their entitlememts when they are alive.

He added that Gov Akeredolu who has now spent over two years in office, inherited backlog of Seven months salary arrears of civil servants and political appointees but has paid civil servants 6 months and refused to pay past political appointees.

The senator-elect said some of the affected political appointees are dead because there was nothing to fall back upon during their challenging period as their entitlements were not paid.

“Gov. Akeredolu was elected as the state governor for all and not as governor for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

‘He owed both civil servants and former political appointees seven months backlog but have paid the civil servants six months and refused to pay former political appointees.

“The said outstanding salaries of political appointees under the past administration is less than N100m in a month and the sum of N100m is not up to the monthly security votes.

“Power is transient and Gov.Akeredolu government is continuum, I urge him to pay all the outstanding entiletlement without further delay for the affected appointees had served the state meritoriously and need to enjoy their entiltilements when they are still alive,” Tofowono said.
