President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on a two-nation working tour beginning Saturday, June 28, 2025, with scheduled visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
In Saint Lucia, Tinubu is expected to meet with the country’s Governor-General, Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre. He will also address a joint session of the island’s Senate and House of Assembly at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.
As part of the visit, Tinubu will participate in a high-level luncheon with leaders of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, focusing on cultural ties and economic collaboration.
Additionally, the President will visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to promote educational partnerships between Nigeria and Saint Lucia.
“President Tinubu’s visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Caribbean states, especially within the African Union’s Sixth Region framework, which recognises the African diaspora as an essential partner in the continent’s development,” the statement read.
According to Onanuga, Nigeria and Saint Lucia share mutual membership in global bodies such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth, and enjoy historical connections through African heritage.
The engagements in Saint Lucia are expected to open new avenues in infrastructure development, education, youth empowerment, and diplomatic exchange.
After concluding the Caribbean leg of his trip, President Tinubu will proceed to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit holding from July 6 to 7.
Tinubu is attending the summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Nigeria holds a “partner country” status in BRICS—an upgrade from its former role as a guest nation. South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia are Africa’s current full BRICS members.
This year’s summit will focus on the theme, “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” with emphasis on socioeconomic development and environmental sustainability.
The President will be accompanied by senior government officials throughout the trip.
