President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to hold a meeting with Nigeria’s service chiefs and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu following his return to the country, to talk about the rising violence in Plateau, Benue, and other areas.
The President came back to Abuja on Monday night after an 18-day working trip to Paris and London.
His plane landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 9:50 pm.
While he was away, the country witnessed a surge in attacks, especially in some northern states, which have led to heavy losses.
Over 120 people have been killed by gunmen during this period, while many houses were set on fire and around 3,000 people have been forced to flee their homes.
In Benue State, attacks in places like Logo and Gbagir claimed the lives of at least 56 people. Local reports say armed herders were behind these incidents.
Even though security forces are present in these regions, the violence has continued.
The President, who has been receiving updates during his time abroad, is now expected to meet with security leaders to review what is happening and plan how to stop the killings and improve safety.
Sources familiar with the matter say Tinubu will not only speak with service chiefs but will also involve ministers in these talks.
The meeting is expected to look into the conditions in Plateau, Benue, Borno, and other troubled areas.
