President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded two separate letters to the Senate, seeking confirmation of 21 nominees for the boards of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

For the NUPRC board, the President nominated former senator Magnus Abe as board chairman. Abe, who represented Rivers South East in the Senate for two terms, is a former board member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and currently serves as chairman of the National Agency of the Great Green Wall. Other nominees as non-executive commissioners are Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi and Mr Sunday Adebayo Babalola.

The President also nominated several executive commissioners to the NUPRC board. They include Muhammed Sabo Lamido for finance, Edu Inyang for exploration and acreage, Justin Ezeala for economic regulation and strategic planning, Henry Darlington Oki for development and production, Indabawa Bashari Alka for corporate services and administration, and Mahmood Tijani for health, safety and environment. Ms Olayemi Adeboyejo was nominated as secretary and legal adviser.

In a separate letter, Tinubu nominated Adegbite Ebiowei Adeniji as chairman of the NMDPRA board. Adeniji is a legal practitioner with over 30 years of experience in energy and natural resources and is currently the managing partner of ENR Advisory. Other nominees include Chief Kenneth Kobani and Mrs Asabe Ahmed as non-executive members, alongside several executive directors for finance, hydrocarbon, gas infrastructure, corporate services, distribution systems and economic regulation.

The President urged the Senate to consider and approve the nominations expeditiously. He also charged all appointees and nominees to carry out their responsibilities professionally in regulating the oil and gas sector, following the recent confirmation of chief executive officers for both regulatory agencies.
