President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic plane crash in Washington, D.C., that claimed at least 18 lives.
The accident happened on Wednesday night when a passenger jet with 64 people on board collided midair with a US Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport.
The impact caused the aircraft to crash into the Potomac River, leaving many injured.
The passenger plane, a Bombardier CRJ700 operated by PSA Airlines under American Airlines, had 60 passengers and four crew members.
The military helicopter, a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, carried three personnel.
Following the incident, the US Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the details of the crash and rescue efforts began immediately.
Emergency teams worked through the night to assist survivors.
On Thursday, Tinubu extended condolences to the victims’ families, the US government, and all those affected. He also praised the first responders for their swift action despite harsh conditions.
Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States during this difficult time.
