Tinubu Lands in Brazil for BRICS Summit

President Bola Tinubu arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Friday night to attend the 2025 BRICS Summit.

His aircraft took off from Saint Lucia and touched down at Rio International Airport around 8:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Brazilian officials, including the Secretary for Africa & Middle East and the Secretary for Innovation and Commerce.

Tinubu is one of four African leaders invited to the 17th edition of the BRICS Summit.

Ggg His attendance comes on the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, recognizing Nigeria as a “partner country” within the BRICS framework — a level considered above observer status but below full membership.

Other African nations participating as full BRICS members include South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

The summit, which gathers nations with fast-growing economies, is focused on boosting trade and technology cooperation among member countries, particularly in the face of increasing global economic tensions.
