Tinubu Denied El-Rufai’s Ministerial Role Over Controversial Reputation – Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu did not offer former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, a ministerial position due to concerns about his controversial image and past leadership record.

Sani, who has been a longtime critic of El-Rufai, shared his views in a statement circulated on Monday.

He said the decision to leave El-Rufai out of the cabinet was linked to the way he governed Kaduna State during his eight-year tenure, accusing him of failing to handle insecurity in the state.

According to Sani, widespread violence and attacks became common under El-Rufai’s leadership, leaving a lasting negative impact.

He claimed El-Rufai has no moral right to criticise the current administration, especially after his own leadership, which Sani described as the worst Kaduna has experienced.

He added that many of El-Rufai’s public remarks against Tinubu’s government stem from frustration over being left out of national appointments.

Sani also connected El-Rufai’s recent outbursts to what he described as a pattern of actions that encouraged hunger and instability in the country.

He referred to the previous government, where El-Rufai served, as responsible for creating the harsh conditions many Nigerians still face.

Further accusing El-Rufai of worsening the lives of ordinary people, Sani said he dismissed thousands of workers and pulled down homes belonging to the poor, including retirees.

He described these actions as a way of deepening poverty and causing hardship.

Sani, who recently moved from the PDP to the APC, suggested that El-Rufai’s attacks on the Tinubu government are driven by anger and a feeling that he deserved a role in the administration.
