President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed outrage over the recent killing of travellers in Plateau State, describing the incident as “barbaric” and calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
The President’s reaction was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the attack claimed the lives of 12 individuals, including close relatives of a groom, who were on their way from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Jos, Plateau State, to attend a wedding ceremony.
President Tinubu directed the Nigeria Police and other security and intelligence agencies to launch a coordinated effort to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
He also urged the Plateau State Government to intensify efforts in breaking the cycle of violence that has plagued the state, emphasizing the importance of restoring peace and preventing future tragedies.
“The freedom of movement for every Nigerian is a constitutional right and must be protected,” the President said. “No group or individual will be allowed to threaten this freedom through senseless acts of violence.”
While assuring citizens that justice will be served, Tinubu also extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the government and people of Kaduna State.
